Attorney for the Child

Formerly known as “Law Guardians”, attorneys for the child are assigned by the Family Court to represent children in the following types of proceedings:

  • Abuse or Neglect
  • Custody and Visitation
  • Guardianship
  • Adoption
  • Juvenile Delinquency
  • Foster Care proceedings
  • Termination of Parental Rights
  • Persons in Need of Supervision (PINS)

The agency has a dedicated staff of eight attorneys, two social workers and two forensic interviewers who meet with our clients and advocate for their position in court. We represent the needs of each child after consulting with him/her to explain their legal situation and determine their needs and wishes.  If the child is very young or lacks the capacity to understand their legal situation, we advocate for the best interest of the child based upon all of the facts and circumstances.  This service is free of charge, but is by court appointment only.
